Cockroachs and clothing?

So I live in the dorms at school (they were built in the 60′s) and I live on the 6th floor (not that elevation helps with cockroaches). I like to think I (and my roommate) are fairly clean persons: we vacuum my room weekly, all food is in rubbermaid tubs and sealed off. I have recently discovered cockroaches in the room (small ones thank god) and the school is coming to spay and bait for them in our room. My question is what to do with the clothes and bedding. If these pests have laid eggs will simply washing them work to kill them? We have decided to throw out the rugs we have in the room along with the curtains and fabric wall coverings. But I can’t afford to throw out all my clothing here or my jackets. What do i need to do about books and things like that will they need to be pitched also? Any helpful advice would be appreciated

Can anyone name off some good camping/backpacking foods that Im forgetting to mention on my list? Thanks!?

So yea basically here are the rules.

1) Nothing super heavy.
2) Nothing that requires refrigeration.
3) No freeze dried foods (gross!)

Some other things to keep in mind, this is going to be a 12 day backpacking trip (thats why nothing super heavy.) We will have a fresh supply of water near by at all times so we can use that to cook things. Finally we have a pot & pan that can be used to cook over a portable stove top. Also please refrain from listing junkfoods, that end of things is easy to figure out…its the other stuff that has me stumped. Heres what we have so far:

Oatmeal
Pancakes
Potatoe Pancakes
Trail Mix
Nuts
Fruit/dried fruit
Granola Bars
Tuna (the kind thats vacuum sealed in a bag)
Pasta/small thing of sauce
Rice
Potates
Corn
Ramen Noodles
Bread
Crackers
Peanut Butter
Various Vegetables
Popcorn
Fruit leather

Please list as many things as you can think of, whoever can list the most conventional and useful ones will get 10pts. Thanks!
Good freaking point Steph! Thats an essential, Im a complete idiot :o )

Should potato chip bags be reduced in size?

Self explanatory. Could be potato chip OR any type of food held in bags.

I’ll use the potato chip example. It kind of stinks to have pumped up bag of chips with only a few pieces of chips. Is all that empty space needed? I’m serious. If all that vacuum is totally necessary and essential, then please do skip the bottom and help me understand why it is needed.

A reduction in its size would help:
- less pollution
- help companies saves some money by less sizable bags
- they can’t fool the quantity of the food by adding some air

True they need big bags for commercial means but they should put their differences aside and focus on the good of the environment. It is a win-win-win situation for buyer, seller, and nature in a way if you think about it.

I want to bring some odd food items home from china to the US. this, however, includes fried, freeze dried, vacuum sealed scorpions. will the cbp reject it at a port of entry?
i can’t find anything against it in the US dept. of arg. website or the CBP website.

Can you carry vacuum sealed soup on the trail?

My wife and I are planning a backpacking trip for 6 days 5 nights. We were debating the food we wanted to carry, and her grandmothers soup is one of our favorite "quick" foods. (She normally cans it for us before winter) We want to know if we can seal it with a FoodSaver vacuum sealer, will it last us about a week? (It’s about a day trip between her house and the park) Also, I know all about dehydrating, but I would like to know what would be useful to vacuum seal and carry. Any meal plans or ideas would be nice also, thanks ahead for all *useful* answers.
**When I said she normally cans it for us, canning is a process by which she places the soup in a mason jar and pressurizes it. That’s why I want to move it to vaccum sealed bags, a much lighter solution.

If you feed and shelter the rodents won't you be up to your knees in them?

The first step in getting rid of house mice is to stop feeding them. Mice are in your home because they enjoy the shelter and food it has to offer. So, in order to eliminate the food source, you will have to keep food in sealed containers and clean up your house. Get out the vacuum and suck up all the crumbs on the floor, in the couch, under the furniture, and anywhere else food may have been left. Pet food is another major source of mouse food. Try only feeding the pets what they will eat in a sitting. If they get a little hungry, maybe they will start going after the mice.
In order to keep the mice out of the house, you will have to mouse-proof your home. Mouse-proofing inside your house is a waste of time if they can still get in from the outside. Walk around the exterior of your home looking for holes, cracks, and other possible entry points. Use a combination of steel wool and sealant to keep the mice from getting back in through any holes you find. Don’t forget to look under roof eaves as well. Also, make sure any ventilation covers have holes too small for mice to get through—½ inch or less. Make sure all exterior doors have a tight fit with no empty space underneath. While you’re outside, make sure the garbage bin has a secured lid and that no garbage is laying around for the mice to eat.

Pack up car to travel?

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to pack up a car with clothes to save as much room as possible. I have a mazda tribute and there will be 5 people riding. So the only room for clothes is in the back about 5 foot by 3 foot.. and then I have racks on top. I have no suitcases… I hard heard just stackin clothes without putting them in anything will save room, i tried vacuum sealing garbage bags when i came and that kind of helped but this time when i travel i am taking clothes and about 700 dollars worth of food lmao… thats why i need to save as much room as possible.. and i am traveling about 3000 miles. any help is appreciated
