What are these itty bitty bugs on my floor?
Ok, I’m looking for answers to these reocurring tiny bugs in my bedroom. I first started noticing them outside on the porch on a dusty plastic table. I didn’t think much of it since those are outside. I’ve also found them on plastics and other materials in the garage (again, pretty much still outside). Now, they’re in my bedroom. I have reason to believe they got into my bedroom from a plastic storage box I brought in from the garage and foolishly didn’t wash it prior. I cleaned it out with soap and water thoroughly after finding bugs in it. I put whatever I could that was in it and around it in the freezer (because mom says that’s how you get rid of dust mites – even though we don’t know if they’re dust mites). I also vacuumed and mopped my floor with vinegar because there were bugs there too. This was about a week or two ago. They still continued to thrive on my bedroom floor and daily vacuuming has not worked. Last night my mother sprayed the floor and adjacent wall with this indoor/outdoor spray (I removed my rabbit from the room for an hour or so). The bugs got off the floor, but then migrated to my rabbit’s food jar. I keep my rabbit’s food in a large clear plastic jar with a screw on lid. This jar and my rabbit’s other belongings are kept under the crate that my rabbit’s cage sits on. I don’t know how they managed to get in the jar. My mom put the jar in a garbage bag and put it in the freezer.
They are so tiny, most people wouldn’t notice them unless they were looking for them. They appear to be a tan or black moving speck and about 1mm long at most. My boyfriend and my mother looked at them and claimed they were dust mites. However, my research on the Internet shows that dust mites are not visible to the naked eye. I’m been searching the Internet for a couple hours trying to compare my descriptions to other people’s bug descriptions/pictures, but I haven’t found a match yet. These bugs move very slowly and pause about every 1 second. They seem to stay only on that side of the bedroom (on the floor next to the window around my rabbit’s area). I caught one of these bugs on a clear piece of tape to look at it under a hand held microscope and noticed that these bugs are actually gold in color. They also have 2 little feelers on their head. I couldn’t tell how many legs it had, since the tape kinda crushed the bug. The body has a sort of geometric pattern on it’s back (kinda like a turtle).
Does anyone know what these bugs are? Are they mites of some type? Will they harm my rabbit if he eats them? Most importantly, what else can I do to get rid of them? As you’ve read, I’ve washed the items, washed the floor, vacuumed, bug sprayed, and froze stuff.
I actually do have TERRO ant bait traps in my window sill at all times. These ants don’t seem to be attracted to it, though. I added a dehumidifier to my room and it seems to be helping a little. I hope that I can do something that will make these ants go out of sight.
